   Facts and Assumptions
Are Mutually Exclusive

.

.

.

Like knowing and believing,  like fire and water,  like chocolate ice cream
and cow dung,
facts  and  assumptions  are very different.
Symbolically speaking, there miles apart.

.

How Do We Distinguish Between
    a Fact and an Assumption?

A fact has evidence to back it up; an assumption does not.   A fact is a statement of what the evidence indicates as reality; an assumption is a belief about reality without any proof or evidence to support it.

.

Assumption Defined:

Perhaps an assumption could be defined as:

1)     a conclusion based upon what something appears to be;  or

2)    a conclusion drawn without looking for and finding a sufficient amount of evidence to warrant such a conclusion;  or

3)    a conclusion draw when there is no way to find any evidence to support or refute the conclusion;  or

4)    a subjective belief about reality which has its life in the mind of the believer  (as distinct from objective reality the validity of which is indicated by measurable evidence.)

5)    an unquestioned belief that we accept as true because we were told it was true by those who appeared to know.

When people believed the Earth is flat they did so because:  1) it appeared to be flat,  2) they lacked the technical capacity to examine sufficient evidence, 3)  no evidence  (beyond the surface appearance) was available to them to support or refute the conclusion,  and 4) almost nobody questioned the validity of what they were told by the church leaders.

.

Assumptions Examined:

In the anti-abortion controversy, how do we distinguish between reality and a belief about reality; between the truth and a fairytale; between facts and assumptions?   Up to now most people have not bothered to make these distinctions.

In order to understand the abortion controversy, it is necessary to have a basic understanding of the assumptions that are at the core of this controversy.   Those supporting forced motherhood peddle several unprovable assumptions  as if they were provable facts.   But, what happens when we examine their assumptions?   What happens when we:

1)    Look beneath the surface of what appears to be the truth,

2)    Take the time and effort to look for supporting or refuting evidence,

3)    Become aware of the statements (the assumptions) that are proclaimed to be true and for which there is no way to find sufficient evidence to either support or refute them?

A whole new reality appears before our eyes.

1)    We find the truth about abortion to be very different from what, on the surface, it appears to be.

2)    We find assumptions about forced motherhood that are in direct contradiction to what the evidence indicates as the truth, and

3)    We find several assumptions underlying the anti-abortion war that are claimed to be true even though those assumptions are impossible to verify as either true or false.

.

Ethics and Morality:

And then there is the unanswerable question of ethics and morality.   Are the Anti-choice leaders simply making assumptions while believing those assumptions are the truth, or is subterfuge adrift here?   Could their motives°  include intentional deception?   Could these people know that truth and be intentionally ignoring it?°   Could they know the truth and be intentionally telling the anti-truth?°   Could there be a hidden agenda behind the surface of  the anti-abortion movement?    Could the anti-abortion war be about  money, publicity and power°  and not about saving babies?  Examine the evidence here and elsewhere and draw your own conclusions.

.

Eight Key Assumptions Examined:

There are eight key assumptions relative to the abortion controversy.   They are listed below along with references to the texts about them.   The texts can be found both  elsewhere on this website and in the books:

Religious One-life-ism,  Reincarnation,  and  Atheism

We begin by examining the three core assumptions about life  -- Religious one-life-ism, Atheism, and reincarnation.

An in-depth discussion of The Three Major Assumptions of Life is available on our truth101 web site at:

http://www.truth101.org/vs-three-assumptions.html

When one examines abortion in detail and within the contexts of each of these three assumption, we come to three very different conclusions regarding the significance, the meaning, and the consequences of outlawing abortion.

.

.

.

The Anti-Abortion Movement's Core Assumptions

There are five, core assumptions that anti-abortion leaders proclaim to be completely true.   When we examine these five assumptions by:

1)      Looking beneath the surface of what appears to be the truth,

2)      Taking the time and effort to look for supporting or refuting evidence,

3)      Becoming aware of the assumptions that are proclaimed to be true and for which there is no way to find sufficient evidence to either support or refute them?

we find that all five assumptions are unprovable.   We also find that these self-proclaimed "truths" directly contradict the religious beliefs of millions of their fellow Christians as well as the religious beliefs of billions of non-Christians who believe they are eternal, divine beings who temporarily inhabit human bodies.   We find that the anti-abortion campaign also has several self-conflicting elements.

An in-depth discussion of the "Five Core Assumptions" can be found on this  web site at:

Way Past Time For Reality Check        ...

It's Way Past Time For a Reality Check

The Problem:   Our so-called  leaders are making decisions, today, that have heavy- duty, long-term, irreversible consequences upon all of humanity and upon the  Earth, itself.   They are making those decisions based upon an underlying set of fairytale beliefs that have their origins in antiquity -- beliefs that were created and have been handed down, virtually unchanged for several hundred years, to the present generation.  These beliefs came from people who believed the Earth was flat; from people who believed that God was a super human being sitting on a cloud in the sky, and that hell was a physical place beneath the ground controlled by an incredibly evil being call the Devil.

Distortions of Jesus' teachings:   The teachings of the gifted master, Jesus,  instead of being studied for their boundless wisdom, were squeezed into a small belief box, tuned into a fairytale-based religion, and used to amass wealth, privilege, and political power.

About 300 AD Constantine declared Catholicism as the official religion on Rome, and thus with the official marriage of church and state,  began the 1,200 years of grief and misery.   Beliefs in and adherence to religious illusion was enforced by government/church violence.   This period was  called the Dark Ages.   During these desperate years, dozens more stories were added to the official belief system, such as  Sex is Sin,°  and  God's Conception Magic Act.°

Religious Beliefs Are Carved in Concrete:  Since about 1,500 A.D., there have been tremendous advances in knowledge about the universe we live, about what humans are, and about how  humans relate to our Earthly environment.   While everything else has evolved, grown and changed, the past five hundred years has made hardly a dent in the religious beliefs that form the foundation of present day human behavior.°    If humanity is going to survive, this must change.   We must begin basing decision upon evidence and not upon antiquated religious fairytales.

What's Being Ignored: Here are some areas that must be given proper consideration.

u     Sub-atomic physics tells us that there is no such thing as physical matter.°    Everything is made up of energy.

u     Ninety-five percent of the known universe is invisible to our five senses and to our physical instruments.   It's called dark energy and dark matter°

u     The latest scientific theories are telling us that the universe is made up of several dimensions that the universe is far more complex that we ever thought it was.  See the Video:  What the Bleep Do We Know.°   This film explains the theory that the universe is made up of infinite possibilities,  that nothing we see hear of believe, including our deepest held religious convictions, should be trusted to give us any definite answers about what reality really is or isn't.

u     That's not to say that this film explains reality, but if I have to choose between believing in God's Conception magic act,° believing in a flat Earth and an believing that there are multiple dimension of reality, I'll place my faith in the multiple realities.   This theory in no way discounts the reality on an infinite source.   It simply says the present perceptions about what that source is and how it functions are most likely inaccurate, but this shouldn't be a surprise to any Christian because their bible tell them the same thing  -- Ecclesiastes 11:5.°

u     Overpopulation is creating an environmental disasters° unprecedented in it's scope since the demise of the dinosaurs.

u     Numerous Biblical passages are simply ignored.°

u     Most of the major Christian beliefs such as "original sin" and  life begins at conception° have no scriptural support.

u     Major fundamental assumption, such as We are our physical bodies.° defy and/or ignore the evidence.

u     Of the three possible assumptions about of life,° atheism, Christian one-life-ism and reincarnation,  the circumstantial evidence overwhelming points us in the direction that the that reincarnation is  the correct assumption, and yet  this assumption  is still being completely  ignored by the vast majority of those in charge of the western nations.

u     Present human behavior is  unsustainable.  Without major changes in human behavior disaster is inevitable.   We are destroying our environment at an astounding and disastrous rate.

u     The status quo is doomed.  It always has been, it is now, and there is no evidence that that is about to change.

u     Change is the norm.  For centuries, churches have been the leaders in resisting change.

u     Major changes have always  come from the lunatic fringe.°

u     Keeping drugs illegal has made the most vile and detestable people the wealthiest people on the planet.°   They literally own portions of every government on the planet.

u     The Federal  reserve has milked billions of dollars out of the public treasury and into the hands of private bankers.   This must end.

u     Campaign finance has caused our so-called public officials to be owned and to vote the will in the special interests and in so doing to ignore the public and the environment.

u     The present public debates contrasting creationism and the scientific theory of evolution°  completely ignore the most likely theory° about the nature of what a human being actually is.

u     Capital punishment° is a sick joke on those who support it.

u     To see how and why of all this, read the web pages titled:

Controversy sells and it's a multi-billion dollar business°  and
How to Recognize Evil.
