Why is the Anti-Abortion Movement so Sccessful

For a long list of reasons:

On the surface, the anti-abortion movement looks like it's actually saving innocent lives.

The anti-choice leaders tell everyone that they are saving lives.

Many people believe the fundamentalist Christian anti-abortion story is true simply because millions of other people believe it.

The anti-abortion leaders have a well developed propaganda campaign. They are doing a masterful job of miss-educating the public. They have had centuries of practice at manipulation by inducing guilt.

The anti-abortion leaders have numerous, credibly sounding, highly skilled public speakers. Alan Keyes, one of the candidates in the 2000 Republican presidential primary, is a good example of an excellent, articulate anti-choice speaker. The speakers on the pro-choice side simply cannot match the debating and oratory skills of the anti-choice speakers.

They have countless captive audiences (churches) and a pools of sheep many of whom have been told the same story since they were defenseless little children. These people have been trained not to question their leaders or the validity of what the leader says.

They have an extensive network of organizations (churches) from which to draw very dedicated and talented workers.

From this pool of mostly mindless sheep they elicit enormous amounts of money and workers for the cause.

This is also a huge brain pool out of which come numerous creative ideas and ways to support their intentions. Unfortunately, these minds rarely if ever, question the basic premise that stopping abortion is saving lives.

The anti-abortion leaders are highly skilled in the art of eliciting emotions, and they are masters at spinning the truth.

They have a long-term written plan of action.

They meet regularly to plan their actions about how elicit new supporters.

They have an extensive network no choice churches; and extensive network of radio and television stations, and numerous regular programs, all with highly skilled orators who repeatedly speak the same message.

Their fairytale stories are believed because nobody is other than the pro-truth team is publicly challenging their fantasies.

The pro-choice leaders, to-date, have simply been no match for the anti-choice leaders. They are not applying the major rules of confrontation: They fight in their own weakest context, the context of logic, science and medicine. They ignore or are unaware that the abortion controversy is a religious war and so doing they fail to attack the oppositions weakest point. Not only that, they are fighting from a completely defensive position, and as any tactician will tell you, you can't win on defense alone.

The pro-choice leaders have, up to now, demonstrated that they don't know how to debate the religious aspects of abortion with the anti-abortion leaders.

The anti-choice leaders are excellent at supporting each other. The pro-choice side leaves much to be desired in this regard.

The followers of the fundamentalist Christian church leaders and the devout followers of Roman Catholicism are the main workers behind the anti-abortion movement. These people are basically mindless sheep with regard to abortion. Most of them have never examined the underlying facts about abortion. Those who do become aware of countermanding evidence, such as Genesis 2:7, and Ecclesiastes 11:5, RSV rarely ever question their leaders. They simply follow instructions. The leaders even refer to their followers as sheep and themselves as shepherds.

The anti-abortion leaders regularly make absurd proclamations about life because they know most people are too busy, too lazy, too scared, or too incompetent to challenge them. Click here for an example.

Some Anti-choice speakers are very offensive in their public debating and intentionally harass and intimidated the pro-choice spokespersons. As a result of this harassment, some pro-choice people now refuse to debate with the anti-choice leaders, and, thus, the no-choice voice is often the only voice being heard.

The abortion issue is filled with huge, hidden, long-term costs and a few, minimal, but very obvious and highly emotional, immediate benefits.

The "pro-life" leaders tell a good story and present a very rosy picture of what they do, but when you examine the consequences of their actions, a very different picture emerges. As Jesus said, "Be wary of wolves in sheep's clothing."

Choice Versus No Choice

Some Personal Observations and an Invitation to Research

Over the years in dealing with people on both sides of the abortion controversy, I've noted several differences in the character and behavior of the people who hold strong opinions on either side of the abortion issue. The differences noted below are personal observation and are not substantiated by any official research.

A valuable contribution to resolving this controversy would be to conduct a research study to examine the character traits of the people on both sides of this issue.

* Sameness - Look first for similarities and then note the differences.

* Difference - - Look first for differences and then note the similarities.

* Internally Motivated. Behavior is dictated by self evaluation.

* Externally motivated. Behavior is motivated by what others will think. Behavior is motivated by church rules.

* God is within. I am part of God. Everyone is inherently good.

* God is out there somewhere. I am separate from God. Everyone is inherently evil.

* Although low self-esteem is a very broad problem, pro-choice people tend to have higher self esteem.

* Tend to have had self esteem destroyed as little children and replaced by dependency upon the church.

* Less inclined to be motivated by guilt.

* Tends to be manipulated and controlled by guilt induced by eternal authority figures.

* Less likely to listen to radio and TV talks shows.

* More likely to listen to conservative radio and TV talk shows.

* Willing to accept new ideas.

* Closed to new ideas.

* Open minded.

* Close minded. "One way; my way. " "It's my way or the highway."

* Hold open-minded perspective on religion. Tend to be hold the Universal Spiritual Perspective on Life and on Abortion -- Understands that trying to stick God into a single religion is like trying to fit the universe into a shoe box.

* Hold very fixed and ridged religious beliefs. Fundamentalist Christians. Conservative Catholics. Our religion is the only true religion. We have exclusive access to God.

* Liberal -- Lets examine the possibilities. What can we create from here.

* Conservative -- Lets go back to how things used to be.

* Open to allowing others to be as they are. Understanding of the Universal Law of Allowing.

* Need for external control of others. Low tolerance of those with different beliefs and behaviors.

* Accepting or simply not concerned about gay people.

* Very uptight and judgmental against gay people.

* Sexual freedom is important.

* Ridged anti sexual.

* Religious freedom is for everybody.

* Religious freedom is for our views only.

* The Rules of law apply to all. An absence of Religious extremists.

* Our mission is so important that any actions is justified. Religious extremists are on this side.

* Together we can solve this problem. Tear down fence.

* Separation is the solution to this problem. Build fences.

* Let the truth lead us where it will.

* Stay away from anyone and anything that might influence you or change your beliefs.

Here's where both sides are similar

* Ignore the problem. Treat the symptom.

How Can Such an Overwhelming
Opposition be Defeated ?

The Answer is surprisingly simple and is comes direct from their own sacred book: "Know the truth and the truth shall set you free."

We cannot and should not expect to change those vehemently opposed to abortion rights. The goal is to stop them from attempting to force their ways onto everyone. Please not the section titled: "Why We Are Speaking" and the section titled: "To Whom We Are Speaking."

The most powerful action you can take is to participate in

Simply make them prove what they say is true.

Ask them unanswerable questions.[1]**

There are passages in the Bible that countermand what they say. Throw these passages in their face at every opportunity.

Challenge their fantasies.

Speak the truth about abortion. Abortion is a religious freedom issue.

Ask them to respond to the Colombo Letter.
