In order to carry on a reasonably knowledgeable conversation and to successfully influence the listeners, it’s wise to have a basic understanding of the anti-abortion mentality.

.

The following excerpts were taken from the full text of An Interview With "The Devil".® °    They give the reader an introduction  to the  basic  anti-abortion mentality.

If you've not yet read

We invite you to do so because then
what appears below will be much more meaningful.

 The Intent of this Page

Some may consider the information below as Christian bashing.   We assure you, that Christianity is alive a well, and nothing I or anybody else can say or do can in any way threaten Christianity. °

We also need to note the difference between the basis philosophy of a religion and the social structure that tends to dominate the religion. °   What is discussed below is the dogma that comes from the Christian social structure.   This is not the religion itself.   The beliefs and behaviors pointed out below are, in  our opinion, major distortions on the teachings of the Jesus.   His teachings are, after all, the basis of the entire Christian religion, and nothing can threaten the truth of the wisdom He brought to us.

 Understanding their

     View of Reality:

.

In order to understand why they do as they do, let's start with an overview of  the mind set of those dedicated to the anti-abortion cause.   (If you haven't done so already, you might want to read the definition of a belief box.) °

  The  Mindset:

No matter what belief system they adhere to, religious fanatics, are a curse on society.   They are absolutely oblivious to anything but their own limited version of reality.   In behavior parallel to that of Saddam Hussein  and Osama Bin Laden, some of those opposing abortion rights will do, endorse, and/or condone absolutely anything to promote their cause °    including vandalism, arson and murder.

They believe they are serving and obeying God.   They also believe that no matter what they do, because they are doing it for God,  they will be rewarded in what they believe is a future eternal life in Heaven with the Lord.   Thus, intellectual and rational thought is simply not a part of their mental process.

When one adds logical mental thinking to religious beliefs, the most reasonable conclusion is that, God is the ultimate mystery of life° and  nobody can tell us with provable certainty anything at all about God.°   So religious zealots are not working for God, they are working from a belief about God.°    And it turns out that there are so many conflicting beliefs about God the nobody knows for sure, which belief, if any, is accurate.

.

What Background Do They Come From?

Those leading the anti-abortion movement are almost exclusively fundamentalist Christians or members of the Roman Catholic hierarchy.   Their followers are, with few exceptions, either conservative Catholics or fundamentalist Christians.   Neither group is noted for its open mindedness.    Conspicuous by their absence is anybody who does not fit into the above two groups.

.

  No Mind:

With regard to religious doctrine, most of the anti-abortionists have been trained from childhood  not think for themselves.   Each religious denomination has it's own a set of precisely phrased statements of belief to which members must subscribe.   Their leaders and their statements of "truth"  are never to be questioned or contradicted.   Catholics have even declared their leader to be infallible.   Believers usually maintain their faith either by  denying all conflicting evidence°  or by simply refusing to think about such matters at all.   Belief in God's conception magic act°   is a case in point.

.

  What Is God?

God is a super human being living somewhere above the clouds.   The lives of the people are completely dependent upon God.   God gave them free will, but punishes those who don't follow orders.   What god wants is revealed through their sacred book.   What that book means is precisely what the revered leaders say it means.  Here are some, all-too-common beliefs about God.°

.

No Logic, Reason, or Common Sense:

With regard to abortion, appealing to logic and reason is a waste of time.    Common sense is meaningless to the anti-abortionists.   For example, one fundamentalist Christian Leader was asked this question: "How can the universe be billions of years old if, as you claim, God built it at 9:00 a.m. on Monday morning six thousand years ago.   His response was:  "God built it old."

Scientifically demonstrated physical evidence that counters their doctrine as well as evidence that shows the devastating consequences of their actions°   are both simply ignored.   Theories and beliefs that conflict with their doctrine°   are called "works of the devil."  The mere mention of Reincarnation is blasphemous, heathen talk.

.

  The Party Line:

If you talk to them, most of them will speak the no-choice party line from beginning to end.   Don't bother to explain anything to them.   They are not listening.   They do not question anything, particularly their leaders because to question one of their leaders is tantamount to blasphemy.   The person questioning a leaders authority or wisdom is commonly given two options:  1) shut up and go along, or 2)  get out and be excluded from the social group, and  be excluded from  heaven after death.

(They are still peddling the same exclusive-access-to-God story  that Martin Luther°   protested about when he posted his  famous "95 Theses" on the church door on October 31, 1517.

.

  Their Belief System:

The no-choice party line is based upon a very fixed belief system that is centuries old  -- a belief system that has remained virtually unchanged since it's inception -- a belief system that  is completely out of touch with present-day reality - - a belief system that denies the religious beliefs of literally billions of their fellow humans - - a belief system that is based upon fabricated fantasies that have been peddled as reality for so many years that they are assumed by the non-thinking true-believers to be true.

.

  Carved in Granite:

Don't expect any of them to change their minds.   They are trained to stop listening whenever they hear something that is counter to what their leaders preach.

.

  The Underlying Assumptions:

The problems with the anti-choice movement stem from :

the underlying,  unquestioned assumptions that are
       accepted as facts --

believing as factual, things that defy logic, reason and
       common sense.

The sections below highlight some of their assumptions and beliefs.

New Revelations    New Revelations    ...

The Ground Under the Foundation   (The Collective Lie)

Neal Donald Walsh in his book, The New Revelations, a Conversation with God, (Page 29)  describes five basic unprovable assumptions (false beliefs) that are taught in almost all Christian religions.   They are paraphrased here:  1)  Humans are separate from God;  2)  God is needy;   3)   God might fail in his attempt to fill His needs;  4) God requires humans to do something in order for God to fulfill His needs; and 5) Because you are a human, God will punish you, abandon you, and/or destroy you unless you become aware of Him,  follow His orders, and provide Him with what He needs.

.

The Sources of the Christian Beliefs About Reality:

God gives orders to all humans and His orders  come to Christian believers through one of two major sources.

The first source is an elderly caucasian male wearing fancy, expensive clothes, who  lives in opulent wealth surrounded by servant while the vast majority of the world's population live either at the survival level or in abject poverty.   This man is said to be infallible, and everyone bows to and respects him.   He sends God's orders out to the believers by way of  his hierarchy of supposed-to-be sexless cardinals, bishops, and local priests.   In addition to the orders, the local priests warn the believers of the dire consequences of doing anything contrary to what the church leaders tell them to do.   To even question that authority is punishable by being thrown out of the social group and being banishment from heaven.

The second source is the Fundamentalist Protestant Christian hierarchy who claim God's authority comes to them by way of the Christian Bible which they declare to be perfect, complete, the literal truth, and the only sacred book that God ever caused to be written.    The leaders tell the followers what that book means, and like the Roman Catholic believers, these people are also warned that to even question a leader's authority is punishable by being thrown out of the social group and being banishment from heaven.

Because of their beliefs, the Christians  find themselves indebted to an extremely powerful, all-knowing, ever-present, fickle, angry, hypocritical, insecure, needy, vindictive, vengeful, son- murdering God.

.

  A Comparison:

To see this hopelessly unprovable quagmire of illusion more clearly, let's compare the anti-abortion war to the construction of a building.   The above five basic unprovable assumptions°    (Walsh)  are the ground (the soil)  upon which the building is built.  The five core anti-abortionists assumptions°     listed below are the buildings foundation, and the anti-abortion war is the building, itself.

By the time you finish reading this page, you'll understand that the anti-abortion war is like a building erected on an ocean beach with a foundation made of rock salt.   The only thing keeping the building standing is the ignorance barrier between the ant-abortion war and the waves ocean of truth.

"Know the truth and the truth will set you  free."   Knowing the truth will also end the anti-abortion war.   Let's examine the building's foundation.

.

.

.

 The Christian Childhood Indoctrination

Here are some of the things that are built into Christian consciousness.   The attributes described below are put into children's minds by intentional, adult teaching and by observing adult behavior.

Little children don't question the truth of what they are told or the validity of what they see in their environment.   They take things in literally.   Kids learn by mimicking adults, so unspoken beliefs and behavior patterns are also transferred to children even concerning things that adults don't want their children to know about or do.

Inherently Evil:   For centuries, little kids have been and still are being taught that they are inherently evil.   They are taught that it's not OK to make mistakes or be wrong because those who do bad things or are wrong  must be punished.     Big mistakes are punishable by he ultimate punishment  --  abandonment -- banishment --  condemnation to eternal damnation.

Conception Magic:   They are taught that they were magically created by God at conception.   They are taught that before God's magic act, they did not exist, but now that God has created them they will exist forever.   They are taught that they are their physical bodies.   Reference  1 :   God's Conception Magic Act°           Reference  2 :   A second perspective on God's Conception Magic Act°

Pathway to Heaven:   They are taught that Earth-life is insignificantly short and what happens while here on Earth really doesn't matter as long as they do what's necessary to insure their access to heaven.  Life in heaven or hell  lasts forever.   Forever is a whole lot of time and begins at death.

They are taught that they only live once on Earth and that this one Earth life is both a testing ground and a stop on the way to heaven of hell.

Duality / Separation:   They are taught that they are separate for God, that God is good and perfect, that they, themselves,  are flawed and inherently evil.   They are also taught that God grant's favors to those who please him.  Thus the natural laws of creation can be violated if God says so.

God's Grace:   They are taught that no matter what they do, they, by themselves,  are just not good enough to get them into  heaven.   In order to avoid being excluded form heaven, God has to save them by his grace and that grace comes only to those who get wet and blessed by the correct holy man.  They must also follow orders from parents and orders from the church leaders .

Ticket to Heaven:   They are taught that  prayers,  suffering, and  dong God's bidding are the ways to get to heaven.

Survival Strategies:   In such a system there's no room for life, there is no way to win.   There are only three, semi-functional,  survival strategies:

u  Denial -- Denial is refusing to acknowledge thing that the evidence show to be true and/or correct.    Denial is also refusing to acknowledge that they are wrong or that what they believe is or could be wrong.   God, the Sacred book, and their revered leader, are all infallible.

u  Projection -- Projection is blaming someone else for their own mistakes.   It's also claiming that they, themselves, don't have certain  unwanted character traits, but those other people do have those traits.   Therefore it's OK to attempt to convert those other people to the correct way, and if necessary to punish or kill them for their evil actions.         Reference:   Projection°

u  Conformity -- Conformity is sheep-like behavior.   It's doing as they are told.  By such behavior they avoid the possibility of making big mistakes and getting banished to hell.

The  Results:   The attribute below are tendencies and general patterns.   They are not universally applicable to any one or to all individuals, nor do all individuals buy into the programming.

What kind of dysfunctional, adult mental mindset can this type of programming produce?   One has but to look at the staunch anti-abortionists to find clear examples of the answer.

u  Mindless conformity to what authority figures tell them.

u  Questioning the rules or questioning an authority figure is a serious offence.

u  Rigid, inflexible, fearful, closed minded.

u  A compulsions to be right.   Pigheaded stubbornness about their beliefs.

u  Highly judgmental.

u  It's us against them.   You are either with us or you are against us.

u  Winning is the only available option.    Win at any cost.  Win or die trying.   If they die while doing God's bidding, they get an automatic passport to heaven.

u  Compromise and consensus°   are seen as making a pact with the devil.

u  Anything  new is suspect.

u  Anything that conflicts with or contradicts  their religious beliefs, is blasphemy.

u  Any action against God's enemy is justifiable because they believe that they are doing it for God.   Things that if done for personal gain would receive condemnation to hell are seen as tickets to heaven.   Those who believe in a different religion are God's enemies.  They are on Satan's side.

.

   5-core Assumptions     5-core Assumptions     ...

The Anti-Abortion Core Assumptions:

Here are five of the core, unprovable assumptions that no-choice leaders proclaim to be completely true.   If even ONE of these five assumptions is not also verifiable, factual reality, then passing forced motherhood laws constitutes religious tyranny, and enforcing such laws is a disguised form of religious persecution.

1)   At every human conception, God creates a new soul:

When the forced motherhood leaders use the word “conception,” they are not referring simply to the biology of male and female cells uniting.   They are referring to an additional process -- a process where God steps in and, by an act of instantaneous, supernatural, transcendental magic, transforms every uniting human egg and sperm into a brand new,  (never-before-existing) separate, complete, eternal, (everlasting) sovereign, human being.

For the expanded text on the Christian view of conception, please see the page titled:  God's Conception Magic Act  and the page tilled:  Life Begins When???

2)   Independent human life begins at conception:

They believe that God magically creates a brand new, separate, complete, sovereign, individual, human being every time a human egg and sperm unite.   Where that union occurs is irrelevant.   It could be in a woman's womb, in a laboratory petri dish or as part of a freak accident on the sidewalk in front of Macy's.  They believe this brand new human being did not exist the moment before conception, but will continue to exist forever more.   Therefore, from the anti-choice viewpoint, independent human life begins at conception.

3)   A human being is his or her physical body:

With absolutely no evidence to support their claim, anti-abortionists declare that, at conception, God creates each human being  as  his/her physical body (in the form of a fertilized egg).   In spite of the fact that the egg has been a integral part of the woman's body since her birth and in spite of the fact that the egg cannot survive on its own, they simply  proclaim the fertilized egg to be a complete, independent, separate, sovereign human being.

Based on the above three declarations, they proclaim that anything which interrupts the life of that egg is an act of murder.  Next, they say, "Because ending the life of an egg is murder; therefore, abortion, RU-486, and stem cell research should all be illegal."     They then bring their religious beliefs into legislative circles and attempt to use the government's power of violence or threats of violence to force everyone else to practice their religion.

4)   More Transcendental Magic:

These same people who declare they are their physical bodies go on to proclaim that, at death, by another act of God’s transcendental magic, they suddenly become something other than their earthly bodies and go someplace above the clouds to live forever without their physical bodies.   Again, there is no scientific evidence whatsoever to support this transformation from “humans who are their bodies” into “beings who are something other than their bodies.”

5)   Freedom of Religion is for Christians Only:

According to the anti-abortion leaders, Jews, Moslems, and the billions of humans (such as Hindus, Buddhists, and Native Americans) who believe in reincarnation do not deserve the right to practice their own religions.   All non-Christians are  considered to be heathens who must be converted to the Christian faith and be baptized.   Otherwise, God will abandon these people and refuse them access to heaven.

There is absolutely no proof whatsoever

that any of these five anti-abortion declarations are factual reality.

.

Unfortunately for the anti-choice leaders, and in spite of their infinite knowledge of how God works, none of them seems to know what God does with the billions of humans He abandons only because they didn't get wet and be prayed for by the right holy man.   Neither do they have an answer as to why God uses such a cruel and inefficient way to fill His heaven.

And now they've lost heaven, too.   As you know, heaven used to be located above the clouds, but in recent years ( since the advent of rocket science) God has apparently moved it and now none of them seem to know exactly where heaven is, either.    Perhaps if they found God's Cosmic Trash Bin for Human Beings,  heaven might be in the same vicinity.

.

More Assume     More  Assume      ...

More Cherished, Unprovable Assumptions:

Every Human Being Is Born Inherently Evil:

Every human being is born in what they call original sin.   This is another assumption which has no scriptural (Biblical) basis and absolutely no scientific evidence to support it.   But, because it has been peddled as fact for so many centuries, it is accepted as true by the religion’s true believers.

Ask them this question  and listen to their response:  How can man be inherently evil when the Bible says man was created in the image of God?   Are you saying God is inherently evil?

Either God is a weirdo or you're telling another fairy tale.  Where did this original sin story come from, anyway?   It's not in the Bible.

  Countermanding Evil:

According to their religious doctrine, a human being cannot enter heaven unless and until the original sin is removed.   The only way to eliminate original sin is to have a church holy man sprinkle the person with water (or dunk them in completely) and say a prayer to God for them.   Otherwise, the newly created human being will be denied access to heaven and will be banished forever to some undefined place.  The process is called baptism.

Of course, we won’t mention that "the church" expects to get paid for this service.   And, by the way, when you die you’ll no longer need all those worldly goods of yours, so you can just will them to "the church" and they’ll take care of them for you.

Because there's no scriptural or scientific basis for the "original sin" story, someone had to have made it up.  One can only speculate about why they would make up such an emotionally and  psychologically devastating story other than to say that original sin ranks right up there with interest on Federal Reserve Bank loans as one of the greatest money making ploys of all time.

  A Ticket to Heaven:

Earth life has one and only one purpose.   It’s a ticket to heaven.   The only thing that matters is that brand new beings survive long enough for some religious leader to baptize them.   What happens to the person while he or she is living on Earth doesn’t matter.   What happens to the Earth doesn’t matter either.   The misery and suffering of this newly created being is irrelevant.   Many believe that the more you suffer on Earth the greater your glory will be in heaven.

In a conflict between saving an embryo and saving the mother, the anti-abortionist Christians choose save the embryo.  Here's why.   They consider the zygote/embryo/fetus to be an independent human being.  The mother is already baptized, so if she dies, she goes to heaven, but the "baby" must be saved so it can be blessed and sprinkled with water by a holy man.  If this does not happen,  the newly created being will be discarded by God and won't ever be allowed into heaven.

  Only one Earth-Life:

According to their religious doctrine, a human being lives once and only once on Earth and then goes to heaven or hell forever based on what he or she did or did not do while here on Earth.   They believe God makes an absolutely black or white decision (between heaven of hell) without even one single shade of gray.  There is no official doctrine about the fate of the billions of humans who are considered to be abandoned by God because they missed the holy water ritual called baptism.

God Murdered His Son to Prove He Love You:

When one examines the mastery of Jesus as described in the Christian Bible, one has to ask, why would someone with the abilities of Jesus allow himself to be publicly executed?   According to Christian theology, the answer  is, "To prove he loves you."

What kind of mind does it take to believe a story as absurd as this?   How many people think that murder is an act of love?**

**  "OK then," you ask,  "why did Jesus allow himself to be publicly executed?  None of us was there, so we don't actually know what happened.  If you consider that reincarnation was a common belief in that culture at that time, if you look at the Bible as a symbolic teaching story, and if you consider the mastery of Jesus, there are other possible and much more plausible ways to view this story.

  Sex is Evil:

Except under certain conditions (with a church-sanctioned husband or wife, and for procreation purposes only) sex is evil.   The anti-sexual anti-abortionists label pre-marital sex, contraception, birth control information, and sex education as evil works of the devil.   This leaves them with one and only one method of preventing unwanted pregnancies - - sexual abstinence.   This belief severely restricts their options in dealing with unwanted pregnancy.

The Christian anti-sexual attitude dates back to about the forth century A.D. to the anti-sexual teaching of the grandfather of Puritanism, Saint Augustine.   Augustine was declared a saint because of his mastery at creating the church doctrine which allowed the Roman Catholic church to dominate Medieval Europe.   He is also noted for his famous prayer: “God grant me chastity, but not now.”   The core of the Augustine message in plain language is: "If you want to go to heaven don't have sex."

  Suffering is Good:

Pleasure is bad.   Pain is good.  The Christian anti-pleasure nature dates all the way back to about 400 a.d. to the historical figure known as Saint Augustine (354-430 a.d.).    Saint Augustine's writings were a focal point around which the Roman Catholic Church consolidated its power and domination of the then-known world.   Even after 1700 years, the theology he created is still the basis for Western Christianity.  Here's Augustine's view of the topic:    “The more you give up, the closer you get to God.”

So now that you know the truth, here's what to do:   The next time you see some homeless person sleeping in an alley, or some poor bastard eating out of garbage can, you just walk right up to him and tell him how lucky he is because he’s real close to God.   And don’t you feed him or give him your old coat because that would push him away from God, and you certainly don’t want to be responsible for leading anyone away from God.   You could go to the anti-abortionist’s hell for doing something as vile as leading someone away from God.

And then you just might want to ask yourself this.   If Saint Anti-Sexual Augustine came to a correct conclusion when he declared “The more you give up, the closer you get to God.” then just how close to God are all those anti-abortion promoters sitting there in their fancy homes with servants, riding in chauffeur-driven cars, and preaching in those multi-million dollar studios they bought with money they begged from their followers?

The Christian Bible is the literal word of God:

See the topic below, The Bible as a Pro-Choice Tool.

  God's Cosmic Trash Bin:

God creates billions of brand new human beings and the almost immediately, trashes over sixty percent of them.   This topic is covered in detail on the page titled:   God's Cosmic Trash Bin For Human Beings.

Stem Cells    Stem Cells                     stem cells       ...

Stem Cells - -  Another Proposed Law Based on Religious beliefs:

stem cells   ...

The Potential of Stem Cell Research:

Stem cells which are derived from human embryos could and   (if research is allowed to continue)  most probably will cure dozens of degenerative diseases - - diseases such as Parkinson's disease, arthritis, diabetes, heart disease, and cirrhosis of the liver, as well as presently irreversible injuries such as spinal cord damage.   Because of the vast potential of this research, some notable scientists feel that stem cell research will very likely revolutionize medicine.   The cures resulting from this research are expected to save the lives of millions and relieve millions more from lives of pain and misery.

  What Is Stem Cell Research:

Stem cells  (which are at the core of this controversy)  come from fertilized human eggs that have been allowed to divide for about a week until approximately one hundred cells are produced.   Some of these cells are then extracted and used for medical research.

Why use these particular cells?   Because they are capable of being transformed into any kind of human tissue - - tissue that can then be used to repair the bodies of humans affected by degenerative diseases.   The research in this field is still in the very beginning stages and yet phenomenal, positive, and encouraging results have already occurred.

The Anti-Abortionists Oppose Stem Cell Research:

The Anti-abortionists oppose stem cell research because it uses human embryonic tissue.  Based on their claim that this embryonic tissue is a new, separate, sovereign, individual, human being, they are attempting to pass legislation that would criminalize this type of research.   They propose punishing  any researcher who uses stem cells with a ten-year jail term and a one million dollar fine.   If they succeed in criminalizing stem cell research, millions who could be saved will continue to die and millions more will live lives of misery in diseased bodies.

  Their "Reasoning,"  Their Assumptions,
        and The Consequences:

In the words of one anti-abortionist, Ken Connor, president of Research Family Council,  "We believe very strongly that people should not be discriminated against based on age or location in a petri dish.   Stem cells can only be derived by killing the tiniest and most helpless of human beings."

Connor's statement follows the typical logic of the Anti-abortion leaders.    It starts out with an "I believe" clause  (as if what he believes should be the basis for secular law).

He then brings in a declaration based one or more unproven assumptions   In this case, the assumptions are:  1) that God created a brand new human being in that petri dish at sometime during the process of egg and sperm uniting, 2)  that a fertilized human egg is a new, separate, sovereign, individual, human being, and 3)  that interfering with the development of that egg into a human body is an act of murder.  His assumption can only be true only if  all five, of the unproven, anti-abortionist declaration mentioned above (Their Core Assumptions) are actual provable reality.

The typical statement closes with a therefore conclusion (missing but implied in the above quote)  --  Stem cell research should be prohibited by law.

Because The Five Core Assumptions are personal, religious beliefs that have no scientific basis, the forced-motherhood  leaders are proposing  still another round of religious tyranny.   And, in the process, are intending to sacrifice the lives and health of millions of their fellow humans.

This is definitely not pro-life.   The anti-abortion leaders may be pro-embryo, but they certainly are not pro-life!

.

.

Two additional things to keep in mind:

1)   Cloning is not the duplicating of a human being.  It is the reproduction of a physical body -- a body carrying the same physical characteristics of the cell donor.

No one yet knows what the inherent personality traits will be or how closely they will follow those of the cell donor.  And then there's the influence of the "nurture" half of the age old "Nature versus Nurture" controversy.

2)   Stem cell research  (like abortion)  will continue regardless of who passes what laws against it.   Cloning research will continue, and sooner or later,  human bodies will be cloned.   In response to this religious controversy, major stem cell research is simply moving outside of the United States.

The Sheep Mind:

The sheep mind is, in essence, no mind at all.

Because their beliefs completely defy logic and reason, have no probable, factual basis, and cannot stand the light of open questioning, the anti-abortion peddlers have instructed their sheep to refuse to look at anything that questions the official doctrine.   When a true believer encounters you, or anyone or anything else who expresses a point of view that does not conform to the party line, they are taught to do three things:

a) To stop reading or listening or viewing

anything that counters their beliefs,

b) To declare whatever they’ve read, heard, or seen

to be a satanic creation of the devil, and

c) To not listen to, read, or view anything more.

  A Declaration of Reality:

With no evidence whatsoever, the anti-abortion leaders believe (or at least preach) that every one of their stories is a factual reality.   They have simply declared their beliefs to be facts and proceed as if the rest of the world is supposed to go along.   The Catholics have even declared their leader to be infallible.

Now,  you can see why logic, reason, common sense, and even the plainly obvious physical evidence are all meaningless to these people.

.

.

.

The Bible as a Pro-Choice Tool:

The very fact that we're bringing the Christian Bible into a discussion of what should or should not be secular law waves red flags in the face of anyone concerned about the separation of church and state.  Make note of this fact and bring it into the discussion the first time the Bible or personal religious beliefs are mentioned in the course of the abortion discussion.

Most anti-abortionists consider the Christian Bible to be the literal word of God.   They also consider every sacred text of every other religion to be merely mythology.

  A Literal View:

The Bible is a great pro-choice tool because taken literally it becomes a self-contradictory prison within which you can easily trap the anti-abortionists.   It becomes a way to expose the illogical, irrational, anti-abortion position for what it is.   Genesis 2:7  is a good example of where they preach one thing and practice something else.   Here's an example of fundamentalist Christians Beliefs about the Bible.

  A Symbolic View:

When read in a more realistic reality the Christian Bible is a great book filled with ageless wisdoms symbolically written.   It’s also an historical treaties describing life and times of superstitious farmers and nomads living in a rural Middle-Eastern desert climate 2000 years ago.   The life, the story, and the teachings of Jesus are especially valuable.

For example, examine this sentence attributed to Jesus:   “I am the truth, the life and the way.”   Taken literally, Jesus becomes a golden idol to be worshipped from afar and begged to for permission to enter heaven.   But taken symbolically, it has an entirely different meaning.   One of the most logical interpretations of this statement is: “The wisdoms and the techniques I teach you are the means by which you can be like me and live in conscious awareness of the joyous and heavenly space that is within each and every one of you.”

Now consider two more statements of Jesus:  “Have I not said you are gods.”   And   “Anything I can do, you can do and more.”   When you put these three statements together, it becomes obvious that, if Jesus spoke the truth, human potential is unlimited.

  The Ignored View:

Because such vast possibilities are too much for most people to handle, they ignore these truths clearly written in the Bible and, instead, cling to stories made up by their religious leaders.   They cling to stories of how they are victims of the whims of an angry, fickle, jealous, fear-filled god who seemingly arbitrarily grants wishes to some, needlessly tortures others.   They cling to stories about a cruel god who literally abandons forever billions of His human creations simply because nobody bothered to sprinkle them with holy water and say a prayer for them.   They cling to fear-filled stories about being exiled forever to hellfire and damnation for doing nothing more than following their God-created, natural instincts.

Ask them how many otherwise-devout Christians are now burning in hell for eating meat on Friday.  (Years ago such behavior was considered a sin.)

  The Rebel's View:

It’s easy to see why the hierarchy of that day found Jesus to be such a serious problem.   He spoke in complete contradiction to almost everything they preached about reality.   That same fear still drives the religious leaders today.   But they can’t kill Jesus, because He, like all of us, is an immortal being  (at least that's the most logical theory)  so they ignore Him, distort His words, and turn Him into a golden idol.   Why?   Because if He speaks the truth, then humans have no need for a religious hierarchy.   If He speaks the truth, then anyone and everyone can touch heaven at any moment and at every moment from within his/her own heart.   As another rebel, Leonardo da Vinci, once said, "He who has access to the well goes not to the water pot."

  The No-Choice View:

God stopped talking to humans 2000 years ago.   There is, of course, one notable exception.  He still speaks to a select few anti-abortion leaders.

The anti-abortionists' predecessors took some of the early Christian religious writings, put them together in one collection* and claimed the collections of writings to be the world’s  one and only  sacred book.  During the first centuries of Christianity, those  in control proceeded to distort that book, or ignore it, or alter it to suit their desires and then, based on several fabricated fairy tales,**  they built the psychologically devastating, fear-based theology*** which is the foundation of present-say Christianity.

In the original context, the word “bible” literally means “library.”

Much of Christian theology is not supported by the Bible. Theology such as original sin, life begins at concepti
