The Anti-abortion Leaders Are Attempting 
to Deny Religious Freedom to Billions of People.

 Several billion people hold religious beliefs that are in sharp contrast to those put forth by the ant-choice leaders.   

   The Jewish sacred text, the Talmud, states that life begins at birth.

   The Christian Bible  (Genesis 2:7)  clearly states that life in a physical body begins at first breath.

   The Moslem Koran  (23.12-14 and 15.28ff) indirectly states that life begins at first breath.

   The Eastern religious (Buddhism,  Hinduism, etc)  teach that each being is a pre-existing aspect of God  (an eternal soul)  that enters a series of physical bodies.

   Native American religions teach that life begins at birth/first breath.

   The atheists say there is no soul at all - - that we are just physical bodies that have somehow acquired consciousness.

   The agnostics say nobody knows the answers to these philosophical questions.

   Millions of spiritual people believe in God, but don't participate a formal religion.   Most of these people believe that an independent human life begins at first breath.   They also resent being forced to practice the ultra-conservative religion of the fundamentalist Christians.  

   For centuries, it has been commonly accepted in many cultures and in many religions that birth (first breath) is the beginning of an independent life.   

   When you examine the abortion issue from each of the three possible assumptions about life, Atheism, Reincarnation, and Religious One-life-ism, three very different meanings emerge.   Two of these philosophies hold major errors and no one can prove which one is right.

The Cost of  the Anti-abortion War 
Staggers the Imagination

I don’t want to be the bearer of bad news, but a closer look at the far reaching results and the long-term consequences of their anti-abortion campaign shows that the "pro-life" claims of its promoters are, in reality, a grim and morbid fairy tale.   Unfortunately, many of the costs and consequences of anti-abortion war are indirect, long-term and don't become apparent unless you look closely.   Here are just a few of the more obvious costs:

   The cost of strangling freedom of speech and promoting political censorship;

   The price unwilling women have to pay for bearing unwanted children;

   The anti-abortion leaders work to close health care clinics and thus deprive women of vitally needed health care.   This results in the spread of AIDS and other diseases and causes the birth and death of hundreds of thousands of hopelessly deformed or drug-addicted babies.   It also causes the deaths of hundreds of thousands of adults.

   The anti-abortion leaders deny sexually active teenagers access to both sex education and birth control which results in:

   millions of unwanted pregnancies,

   millions of abortions,

   millions of cases of venereal diseases,

   hundreds of thousands of hopelessly deformed,

drug-addicted babies,

   millions of cases of AIDS,

   millions of deaths from disease and starvation, and

   hopeless misery for millions more.

   The anti-abortion leaders cut off funds to the health clinics which serve desperate women in third-world countries simply because those clinics offers birth control information.   (See Global Gag Rule below)  The resulting poverty, death, and misery is beyond anything we can imagine.

   The cost of forcing women to produce more children than they can be possibly care for.   The anti-abortion leaders force third-world women to birth unwanted babies -- babies that they will have to abandon and leave to die because the family cannot care for still another child.   

.

   The anti-abortion leaders force unwilling drug addicts to produce unwanted babies results in millions of deformed babies.   The social and economic cost of caring for these deformed babies is staggering.   Many of these costs are born by the tax payers.

.

   Pro-choice supporters say that 200,000 women die each year from botched, illegal abortions.  No-choice supporters say that number is excessively high.   Even if it's only a  50,000 deaths, that's still 50,000  too many and 50,000 more than necessary. 

.

   Overpopulation is already producing serious negative consequences on planet Earth.   Overpopulation is causing the death and extinction of uncounted thousands of unique, irreplaceable life forms on Earth.** 

** Scientists estimate that the extinction of plant and animal life on planet Earth is presently occurring at the rate of one species per hour.  

The anti-abortion leaders support and endorse policies, laws, and practices that result in the birth of still more babies and thereby aggravate an already critical  situation.  

   The cost of inhibiting the distribution of birth control devices and birth control information;

   The cost of stifling sex education;

   The cost of inhibiting birth control research which could reduce or all but eliminate unwanted pregnancies and, thus, eliminate abortions;

   The cost of preventing stem cell research simply because it involves the use of otherwise discarded fetal tissue and thereby causing the deaths of millions who would otherwise live and causing millions more from lives of pain and misery.

   The cost of promoting sexual repression;

   The cost of ignoring the U. S. Constitution and destroying the separation of church and state;

   The anti-abortionist leaders promote policies that result in the spread of AIDS and other sexually transmitted disease. 

   They promote policies that force babies onto young women who are, themselves, only children.

   They promote policies that result in misery for millions of children (and adults) by forcing them to live in abject poverty.

   They promote policies that produce child abuse.

   They promote policies that produce spousal abuse.

   They promote policies that produce poverty, crime and drug abuse.

   They promote policies that result in the psychological devastation and the sexual violation of hundreds of thousands of innocent children.  See Thailand's Shame,  Referenced in the Bibliography.

   They promote policies that result in millions of children being abandoned and left to die or survive on their own.  See Abortion For Survival,  Referenced in the Bibliography.

   They promote policies that cost billions of your tax dollars.

   They promote policies that result in the destruction of our forests and other natural resources.

   They promote policies that result in the creation of billions of tons of toxic wastes. 

    Overpopulation is also at the heart of every major problem facing humanity today.   Overpopulation is aggravating all of these problems and making them much worse than they otherwise would be - - problems such as poverty,  starvation,  child abuse,  overcrowding,  crime,  drug abuse,  gang violence,  social unrest,  political violence,  wars,  rainforest depletion, environmental destruction,  ozone depletion,  air pollution,  water pollution,  resource depletion,  topsoil destruction,  global warming,  and species extinction.

Human overpopulation is causing a global environmental disaster of proportions not seen since the demise of the dinosaurs.   In the face of this already-in-process disaster, the anti-abortion promoters are denying its existence and proposing the birth of still more babies.

Some people claim the above statements are an exaggeration.    BUT...

.

Even if only one third of the above claims are true, 
that still makes the anti-abortion war a global disaster.

Thousands of Already-born Children Die 
for Each Embryo that the Anti-abortion Leaders Save.

The actions of the so-called "pro-life" leaders do not save any lives.   Their actions only transfer death onto different beings at different times and places, and, in the process, they precipitate poverty and misery onto millions, and promote the extinction of species at a rate paralleled only by the extinction of the dinosaurs.

In a world where eight hundred million  (800,000,000) people are hungry right now; and in a world where forty thousand (40,000) innocent children starve to death each and every day, the ant-choice leaders are forcing unwilling women to birth still more unwanted, unhealthy, children?  

Where is their compassion?   Where is their love?   Where is their common sense?   Death ten times the 9-11 world trade disaster occurs every day and they simply ignore it.   Does that make any sense at all?

If you balance the number of lives the anti-abortion leaders save by promoting forced motherhood against the number of deaths that result directly or indirectly from their actions, one can only conclude that:

The Anti-Abortionists' Global Gag Rule 
Is Hypocrisy Raised to an Art Form.

The Anti abortionist who so ardently claim freedom of speech for themselves are once again being the masters of hypocrisy and denying free speech to others.   Their Global Gag Rule, which has been re-implemented by "Resident" Bush, places broad prohibitions on the privately-funded activities of foreign organizations that receive U.S. aid.   The Global Gag Rule's means that any organization that receives U.S. funding:

Cannot express a view contrary to the "official" view of the United States government,

Cannot speak freely about abortion or about abortion law reforms,

Cannot organize a public debate or media event if abortion is to be part of the discussion,

Cannot engage  in sex education activities,

Cannot publish or express factual information about abortion during a public meeting or any media event,

Cannot engage in any public discussions about abortion,

Cannot engage in internet discussions about abortion,

Cannot testify before or give briefings to the U.S. Congress regarding abortion,

Cannot attend or speak publicly at UN conferences about abortion,

Cannot work with their governments to change abortion laws,

Cannot serve as a defense or expert witness in a trial prosecuting women for criminal abortions.

Here's how far our no-choice friends will go:  

In nations where abortion is legal, organizations working to criminalize abortion or to increase restrictions on abortion access are free to say anything they choose anywhere they choose to say it, but  those favoring abortion rights and abortion education are subject to all eleven of the Gag Rule restrictions listed above.   The anti-abortionist-sponsored Global Gag Rule is nothing short of global censorship!
