We are Pro-choice because

The  "real"  truth  about  abortion  is:

 WE  DON'T  KNOW  THE  TRUTH!

And we have no way to find the truth!

.

We have an abundance of speculations, conjectures, guesswork, personal opinions, and religious proclamations, but very few facts.   Speculation about the meaning and consequences of abortion push us deeply into the age-old, still-unanswerable, religious questions.   In addition to the nine questions listed above in Reason One, here are ten more unanswerable questions:

*   We know the anti-abortionists claim He does, but does God really create a brand new soul every time a human egg and sperm unite?

*   Are we our physical bodies?

*   Are we eternal beings who simply inhabit physical bodies?

*   Are we a soul with a body, a body with a soul,  or only a physical body?

*   What is this non-physical stuff we call "the mind" or "spirit?"

*   What happens to "us" after the physical body dies?

*   Is heaven a place or a state of being?

*   If we are our physical bodies and if heaven does exist, how do we get to heaven after our body dies?

*   What is the purpose of human life?   Is it simply a ticket to heaven as the anti-abortions leaders teach?    Is it, as many reincarnation believers say, an opportunity for an eternal being to experience divinity in physical form?

*   Do the billions of people who believe in reincarnation have a right to practice their religion?

*   When does an independent human life begin?

*   And several dozen more equally unanswerable questions.

We might also want to ask this very-answerable question:  Should every person have the right to control his/her own body,  or are women slaves who must conform to the religious beliefs of the forced-motherhood fundamental Christians?

Because present day technology provides no conclusive answers about which one of the three assumptions (Atheism, Reincarnation, and Religious One-life-ism is correct, we are still left with only speculation, conjecture, guesswork, and personal opinions as to what abortion is and what it means.  Even the technical data we do have has to be interpreted as to what it means and that again returns us to speculation, conjecture, guesswork, and personal opinions.

.

The Bottom line:

pink shinny bullet   There are no provable answers to numerous
               crucial questions.

pink shinny bullet   There are so many different and conflicting opinions.

pink shinny bullet   Nobody can say with certainty that he is correct and
                everyone else is wrong...

pink shinny bullet   These are questions that have been debated
primarily in religious circles for centuries...

A Logical Conclusion:

pink shinny bullet   Abortion is a religious freedom issue.

We are Pro-choice because

The Anti-abortion leaders have no factual
evidence to support their religious proclamations

.

In order for anti-abortion laws to be moral, just, and ethical, the fundamental, underlying religious beliefs put forth by the anti-abortion promoters must be not only beliefs, they must also be provable facts.   These beliefs form the foundation upon which the entire anti-abortion campaign is based.   If even one of their core beliefs is not also a verifiable truth, then any secular law based on them violates the Unites States Constitution.   Such laws are nothing short of religious tyranny, and enforcing those laws constitutes a disguised form of religious persecution.   Here’s the first one:

Every time a human egg and sperm unite, God steps in and, by an act of instantaneous, supernatural, transcendental magic, transforms that egg into an eternal, everlasting life-spirit called a human being.

.

According to this belief, that brand new being did not exist before the egg and sperm united.   In addition, the egg, itself is now declared to be a complete, separate, independent human being to be accorded full human rights:

even though it has been an integral part of the woman’s body since her birth,

even though it is still totally dependent upon her for its survival, and

regardless of the wishes and desires of the woman in whose body the egg resides.

Also, according to this belief, each human being lives only once as a physical body on Earth and then goes to heaven or hell forever more.

 Here’s the second one:

Independent human life begins at conception:

.

Anti-abortion laws are based on the belief that God magically transforms every uniting egg and sperm into a brand new, separate, sovereign, individual, human being who will continue to exist forever more.   Where that union occurs is irrelevant.   It could be in a woman's womb, in a laboratory petri dish or as part of a freak accident on the sidewalk in front of Macy's.

Based on their belief in God’s magic act at conception, the no-choice leaders have simply declared that a separate, independent, individual, human life begins at conception,   BUT, in spite of an exhaustive search...

NOBODY!   Not even the United Sates Supreme Court, could find even one lick of factual evidence or any scientific research data to support such a claim.

.

.

Here’s the third religious belief that must also be absolute, provable fact:

A human being is his or her earthly physical body.

.

If you’re like us, we had to ask:  “What’s important about being or not being our physical bodies?”   Well, here’s the answer we received.   If a human being is his/her physical body (in the form of a fertilized egg) that God has magically transformed into a new, separate, sovereign, individual, human being at conception, then doing anything to interrupt the life of that egg is an act of murder.

On the other hand, if humans are something other than their physical bodies, then the egg is merely the seed, the "blueprints," the instructions from which a physical, human body is created out of earth matter.   That potential, when developed and nurtured, grows into a physical body which becomes the host for a being -- a host for a soul -- or  (as the Christian Bible calls it)  a host for the "Spirit."   (See Genesis 2:7)

Obviously, if the physical egg, itself, is not the human being, then what happens to that egg is a personal, private matter and is not an issue for public debate.

The anti-abortion leaders claim they are their physical bodies.    Since they also claim to read and follow the Christian Bible, one might justly ask why they totally ignore the dozens of passages that either distinguish spirit from the physical body or make reference to breath giving life to the body.

.

.

And, as if all that isn’t enough to open your mind to religious freedom, let us share with you a third commonly offered, false argument for restricting women’s reproductive rights.

“Because a fertilized egg is alive, human and unique, it should be accorded full human rights.”

.

Well, it doesn’t take Einstein or Sherlock Holmes to figure out that a woman’s mature egg, which has been stored and sustained among thousands of others in her body since her birth, always was, is now, and always will be alive and human.   Eggs are, after all, the starting points from which almost all life forms (including humans) make living copies of themselves.   And, as for being unique, we all know that everything in the entire universe is unique.

So using alive, unique and human as a basis for arguing against women’s reproductive rights is like arguing that water is water because its wet and it’s wet because it’s water; therefore, abortion should be illegal.   This is hardly a legitimate reason to pass laws which directly, or indirectly, force unwilling women to bear unwanted children.

.

The Bottom line:

pink shinny bullet             pink shinny bullet   There is no factual evidence to support passing
               anti-abortion laws. . .

pink shinny bullet             pink shinny bullet   Anti-abortion-related laws are based solely on
               speculations, conjectures, guesswork, personal opinions,
               and religious proclamations. . .

pink shinny bullet             pink shinny bullet   The most basic claims of the anti-abortion leaders
have no factual foundation. . .

A Logical Conclusion:

pink shinny bullet   Abortion is a religious freedom issue.

Clash of Beliefs           ...

(3)

The Anti-abortion War
Is a Clash of Conflicting Religious Beliefs?

.

If abortion is a secular issue that warrants government control, what makes it so?   In answer to that question, the  anti-abortion leaders claim that the zygote/embryo/fetus is an unborn child that has the same rights and privileges as any other human being.

But in the face of  numerous unanswerable questions,  how do they know their claims are correct and that those who hold other beliefs are wrong?  Here are just a few of the questions that must be answered before anyone can claim exclusive access to the truth:

What is the nature of a human being?

Are we a soul temporarily housed in a physical body?

Are we a body that possesses a soul?

Or are we simply a clump  of dust  that has somehow magically acquired consciousness?

What is the nature of the zygote?   Is it a human being or is it a blueprint for the creation of a physical body.

Are embryos, and fetuses human beings or are the names for the stages of development in the process of creating a human body for the use of an eternal spirit that simple inhabits the human body?

When does an individual, independent, human life begin?   Is that dividing line any clearer than the divisions between night and day or hot and cold, or high and low, or hard and soft,

Does life still begin on Earth or are the scientists correct when  they say, "Life in Earth doesn't begin any more.   It began several billion years ago and just keep changing form."

Scientists have determined that physical matter is an illusion, that everything is made up of energy, so when someone says "I" or "me" to what are they  referring?

Is the zygote/embryo/fetus actually an innocent third party or is this just another religious belief?

Nobody can answer any of these questions with provable certainty, so where does that leave us?

.

a)

.

Billions of our fellow human beings believe in the Eastern religions which teach that a human body is just a temporary home for an eternal divine being -- a being that existed long before the present physical body came along.

.

b)

.

The fundamentalist Christian anti-abortion leaders represent only a small portion of Christian religions.   Many church leaders and millions of liberal Christians  support abortion rights because they believe God was right when, in Genesis 2:7 of the Christian Bible, He said life begins at first breath.

.

c)

.

Millions more (atheists) believe that we are simply  physical bodies that have somehow magically acquired consciousness.   Many atheists also believe that all this religious hoopla against abortion is nothing but a fairytale gone mad.

.

d)

.

Millions more (agnostics) say we simple do not have answers to this type of question.

.

e)

.

And still millions more (The Universal Spiritual Perspective) believe that they have a direct connection to the Infinite Source of All and that they have no need for organized religions to tell them what to believe or how to live their lives.

.

.

f)

.

For centuries, birth/first breath has been the point where the right of  independent existence was granted.

.

g)

.

The fundamentalist Christian anti-abortionists  defy God’s word as written in Genesis 2:7 of the Christian Bible, and arbitrarily proclaim that that at every human conception, God steps in and by an act of instantaneous, supernatural, transcendental magic, He creates a brand new human being that did not exist prior to the egg and sperm uniting.   And in direct conflict with the reincarnation religions, the anti-abortionists claim that a human being is his/her physical body.

They also claim that at death, God steps in again and magically transforms them from a physical body to a soul that goes to heaven or hell forever.

______________________________

.

Nobody has tangible proof for any of their
     religious beliefs and  claims.

Most people choose to be free to make up our own minds

regarding becoming or not becoming parents.

Many of the religious beliefs are in direct conflict with those of
other religions. They can’t all be right.

Who can say that their religious belief is right and that

everyone else’s belief is wrong?

Who has the right to force people to practice a religion
     they
don't believe in?

.

The Bottom line:

pink shinny bullet   The evidence indicates that abortion is
a clash of conflicting religious beliefs.

A Logical Conclusion:

pink shinny bullet   Abortion is a religious freedom issue.

The Opposing Sides in the Abortion Controversy
Are Clearly Divided Along Religious Lines:

On the No Choice Side:

The leaders of the anti-abortion movement come almost exclusively from three categories:  1) born again, fundamentalist Christians, 2) conservative Catholics and 3) the hierarchy of the Roman Catholic Church.

The followers of the anti-abortion movement are almost exclusively fundamentalist Christians and conservative Catholics.   (These people are trained  not to questions the wisdom or correctness of their leaders.  They simply take action on instructions from them.)

Those Missing:  Jews, Moslems, Buddhists, Hindus, Native Americans, agnostics, and atheists are conspicuous by their absence.   Also absent are the tens of millions of Americans who live by their own spiritual principles, who believe in God, but do not participate in any organized religion.

On the Pro-Choice Side:

The leaders of the pro-choice movement come from a broad spectrum of personal and religious philosophies.

The followers of the pro-choice movement also come from an equally broad spectrum of personal and religious philosophies including open-minded Catholics and those who actually believe the Christian Bible is correct when in Genesis 2:7  is says that an independent life begins at first breath.  And although I've yet to find an atheist promoting the forced motherhood position, they are relatively easy to find on the pro-choice side.

Also, a significant number of pro-choice supporters are spiritual minded people who believe in God, but do not participate in any organized religion.

Those Missing:     On the pro-choice side you will find NO born again, fundamentalist Christians,  NO conservative Catholics,  and NO leaders  of the Roman Catholic Church.

.

The Bottom line:

pink shinny bullet   The evidence indicates that the anti-abortion
controversy is deeply and clearly divided
                along religious lines.
.

A Logical Conclusion:

pink shinny bullet   Abortion is a religious freedom issue.
